Nice to see you again Dragonfly Bloggers and welcome back.
Friday and Saturday Myself, Libby and Dog were working locally in Burntwood at a lovely elderly couples house. It was a pleasure working there and they looked after us very well with the tea, which was appreciated greatly especially on day 1 as it rained all day.
Myself and Libby arrived at the job around 8.45 and were greeted by Mr and Mrs Bayliss who were looking happy to be getting there jobs started. They looked even happier when Libby passed them 6 eggs, laid fresh that morning from her girls.
We took the tools out of the van and Libby commondeered the garage to keep our stuff dry. While Mrs B made us a nice cuppa, we organised how we were going to tackle the job in hand, starting with the shrubs they wanted ripping out from beneath the Ornamental Plum.. We had our drink and got to work as the weather worsened. I cut the shrubs down and dug the roots out while libby filled the van with the rubbish. We then raked it out level ready to turf. Before we turfed how ever we needed to reshape the Plum so we were not walking over our freshly laid turf.
We firstly thinned out the tree, removing any rubbing or crossing branches with the pole saw. I then climbed into the crown and proceeded to shape the top using the handheld loppers, while libby guided me with the shape. The tree had been topped before, but the shape didnt look right , so we had to do a reshape and with Libbys expert guidance......iI didnt go half bad at all.
Mean While.......Dog had been finishing up from a job the day before, he got to us when we were about half way through the tree. Dog dropped onto the turfing along the edge of the driveway to fill in an old border. Then while we were finishing off the tree he laid the rest of the turf (good man).
By the time we were finished we were all pretty wet, but we new Saturday was going to be a sunny day so it wasnt too bad. Mr and Mrs B loved the tree and turfing jobs we had done for them and couldnt wait for us to get back the next day and rip up and relay their patio.
We met at Dogs alotment at 7.45 , emptied the van and proceeded to the job in convoy. Today Dog was in the tractor as we needed to take a fair bit of material and there was alot of old rubbish to move.
When we arrived we were greeted again by Mr and Mrs B. While they put the kettle on, we got the tractor emptied, plugged in the radio and fired up the mixer. We drank our tea and got to it,(well Libby and Dog did, I forgot mine. Sorry Mrs B). Myself and Dog started to lift the slabs which Mr B had jet washed clean, while Libby banged a mix in. There were ants everywhere, proberbley the reason for the slabs sinking so bad and rocking. Mr B brought some ant killer and where ever we came across the blighters we caked them in it. We got about a quarter done and had a cuppa and ten minutes break(again I forgot my drink really sorry Mrs B). We continued and got to just passed half way when we downed tools again and had another ten minutes. This time the tea was lovely thanks Mrs B. We cracked on and the job was in full swing, me and Dog laying and Libby mixing. It was about 1.30 ish when we had finished the main area. Dog then lifted the pathway up that had sunk really bad while myself and Libby swept the Kiln dried sand into the big area. It had been sunny all day, but would you believe it as we opened the sand bags its started to rain (hard). Luckily it was like a minutes worth and the sun came back out.(crazy weather). By the time we had swept the sand in Dog was ready for us to do the pathway. We then had ten minutes and another cuppa, while looking back over our work. By this time it was about 2.30 and we were about done. We put all the tools away and tidied up. MR and Mrs B asked us if we could get rid of some big pots, that were to big for them to moneuver, so me and Dog loaded them onto the tractor. We then lastly hosed down the patio and told Mr and Mrs B not to go on it untill Monday to give it all chance to set. They were extremely pleased with the work we had done for them.
Thanks again for the hospitality Jay, Libby and Ben (aka Dog)
